Laser Therapy (LANAP)
Lasers used to live in the realm of science fiction. Setting your phasers on full, dueling with lightsabers, and energy beams were all we knew about this technology. Now, they’re commonplace in our homes and offices. In medicine, they’ve been nothing short of revolutionary. Lasers can precisely target bad tissue, in a way that traditional surgical tools can’t.
Traditionally, advanced treatment for periodontal disease is gum surgery. Using a scalpel, the dentist cuts the diseased gum tissue away, removes any infected pockets, then sews up the gums. How sutures are placed determines the final shape of the gums and your lasting comfort. It also affects recovery. With LANAP laser treatment, the dentist can very precisely target the diseased tissue, leaving the healthy tissue, completely alone. This treatment can significantly speed up healing and reduce discomfort.
Another advantage of laser therapy is that it does an outstanding job of sterilizing the treated area. The lasers reduce the risk of infection, creating a perfect environment for regrowth of your gums and bone. It’s not a fix-all for all dental treatment, but it is a powerful tool we have for your treatment. The LANAP laser system has been certified by the FDA to facilitate bone regeneration.
Working with lasers requires extensive training. Using lasers to their maximum benefit requires experience and skill. Not only are Dental Specialties Northwest dentists skilled with the laser, but they are also experts at traditional treatments, and they know how to identify what will work best for you. When you come in for your consultation, we’ll fully explain the treatment options and recommend what will work best for you. You’ll build a relationship with doctors Sweeney and Ansong, and you will know you’re getting the best possible treatment.
